If you’re a Michigan farmer, you know how difficult and expensive it can be to run your farm business—especially with any number of legal challenges that may exist. That’s where the Michigan Agricultural Mediation Program can help.

Cory Martin, the Executive Director of the Michigan Community Mediation Association, says his team has grown to include additional mediators who are now available to also help resolve legal disputes among between family members.

“One of the biggest things is a recent training that we conducted so that we could get more mediators trained to impact a more people throughout the state of Michigan,” says Martin.

With more mediators who are readily available, Martin says he and his team can also help resolve family legal disputes as well.

“That’s one of the biggest advancements this year heading into the ag mediation program that we do for the state of Michigan. The recent training included the representatives from the USDA Farm Services Agency,” says Martin. “Traditionally, our ag mediation has been involved with land rights, land usage, and those types of disputes. Now, that mediation can really involve family disputes in business matters as well.”

Martin says he and his team will have a booth at this year’s Great Lakes Expo on Dec. 5 through 7 at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
